These stunning baskets are handcrafted in Binga, a remote Northern Zimbabwe district home to the Tonga people. Using traditional weaving techniques, Tonga women create intricate patterns with a 16-inch diameter basket taking about 2 weeks to complete.
Made from all-natural materials like wild grasses, small vines, and dyed palm leaves, these baskets feature a unique herringbone pattern on a coiled rim. Originally used for winnowing grains, the largest-sized bowls continue to serve their purpose for the Tonga people.
By purchasing a fair trade product like this African basket, you receive a beautiful artisan product that helps support a family in a developing country and preserves traditional crafts. Thank you for your purchase and for making a positive impact!
